AU Lacrosse Falls to Towson, 17-8

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision to Towson University in non-conference action on Tuesday at Jacobs Field. American falls to 1-4 on the young season, while Towson improves to 3-0.

The Eagles broke onto the scoreboard first, with Amanda Makoid tallying an unassisted goal just under five minutes in. Towson responded with three unanswered goals though to take a 3-1 advantage with 16:24 left in the half. American and Towson would exchange the next eight goals to end the half with the Tigers holding a 7-5 lead.

In the second half Towson would break away, out-scoring American 10-3 over the final 30 minutes. Jackie Lane, Lauren Aksionoff and Gina Ibello tallied second half goals for the Eagles.

Makoid and Ibello finished with two goals, while J. Lane scored one goal and added four assists. Kira Sonberg had a goal and an assist and Lauren Lane scored in the defeat. Allegra Formento was credited with an assist.

Jacie Kendall led Towson with four goals and Hillary Fratzke had a six point outing on three goals and three assists.

The Tigers held a 49-19 margin in shots. AU's Kristine Vida tallied 17 saves in goal and picked up a team-high five ground balls in the loss. Tahra Johnson and Makoid each forced three turnovers.

American will open the Patriot League portion of its schedule on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Bucknell.
