Women's Lacrosse Falls to Old Dominion, 9-5

March 1, 2008
WASHINGTON - The American University women's lacrosse team fell behind, 4-0 and 6-1, before making a comeback attempt, but eventually lost, 9-5, Saturday versus Old Dominion at Jacobs Field.
Gina Ibello scored two goals for the Eagles, who scored four of five goals in the second period.
AU found itself down, 3-0, just 11 minutes into the game. The visiting Monarchs tacked on another goal with just under two minutes left in the first, before Lauren Lane opened the Eagles' scoring with an unassisted tally just before the break to make the score 4-1.
The chances of an Eagle comeback diminished when the Monarchs (1-0) scored the first two goals of the second half, putting American in a 6-1 hole.
Each time American put a goal up on the board for the rest of the game, ODU matched it, not allowing AU to make a comeback.
American falls to 1-3 with the loss. Kristine Vida was solid in net for the Eagles, notching 11 saves.
Stats for the game were even, as both teams fired 26 shots. Ground balls went in favor of American, 15-14.
American returns to action on Tuesday, March 4, when they welcome Towson to Jacobs Field. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
