Head Coach Katie Woods enters her second season at the helm of the American University women's lacrosse program.
Woods comes to American after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Brown University. At Brown she coached the offensive unit and assisted in coaching the goalkeepers. Woods also was responsible for recruiting New England area athletes and oversaw the recruiting operations for all prospective student-athletes. While a member of the Bears coaching staff she also served as the Alumnae Relations Coordinator which entailed creating quarterly newsletters and organizing the First Annual Alumnae Game and reception afterwards. During the 2003-04 season Woods was the first assistant at Cornell where she aided in player development and assisted the head coach with fiscal management and other budget concerns. With the Big Red she also planned team travel, ordered and distributed team equipment and broke down game film. Prior to Cornell she served as an assistant coach at Davidson College for a season where she helped plan practices and organized different recruiting efforts in addition to coaching during contests. Woods spent a year at Ithaca College where she was a graduate assistant coach for both women's soccer and lacrosse. While at Ithaca she earned her master's degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences. She has also been involved in numerous camps during her career, including the Premier & Girls Lacrosse Camp and more recently serving as Assistant Director of Infinity Camps in Providence, R.I. With Infinity Woods managed camp and clinic staff, produced curriculum for camps and clinics along with instructing campers. Woods was a two sport star at Drew University, where she played lacrosse and soccer. She was a four-time All-conference selection in lacrosse, also picking up two Regional All-American and one National All-American award. Woods also excelled in the classroom where she was a six semester member of Drew's Dean's list and a two-time Scholar Athlete award winner. She graduated with a degree in Psychology in May of 2001. "I'm very excited to be given the opportunity to work at American and help the lacrosse program compete for a Patriot League Championship and bid to the NCAA tournament," said Woods. "I'm looking forward to getting on campus to start preparing for the '06-'07 season." Woods becomes the sixth person to take over the reigns of the women's lacrosse program at AU since the first season it was sponsored as a varsity sport in 1990. |
