WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will close its 2018 campaign at home on Saturday with a noon draw against Lehigh. The game will also serve as the team's Senior Day celebration, as the Eagles send off the talented foursome of Sam Breeze, Leah Brennan, Jennifer DeSimone and Lexi Perez.
Although Lehigh (11-5, 6-2 PL) has claimed the last four games against American (3-13, 0-8 PL), including a 14-10 decision last season, the Eagles still lead the series, 11-8. The last AU win over the Mountain Hawks was in 2013 with a 16-8 final score.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
American fought a tight battle against Lafayette on Wednesday but eventually fell to the Leopards, 13-12. Senior Leah Brennan, sophomore Izabella Jade, and freshmen Emma Vinall and Peyton Smith led the team with two goals each while Smith also added a pair of assists for a team-high four points. Junior Fiona Geier earned 11 saves on the day.
Sophomore Erica Skowron leads AU's overall offensive production with 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists). With two more assists, she will tie the single-season program record, sitting alongside Olivia Mangan (2016). Skowron already earned a pair of single-game records earlier this season with her six assists and 11 points during the win over Howard.
Vinall remains the top goal-scorer for the Eagles with 34 in her 12 games. Brennan enters the game with a team-high 55 draw controls while junior Sydney Fry leads AU with 32 ground balls.
Geier has led the team in goal for the majority of the season, including a career-record performance against Holy Cross where she came away with 20 saves to rank third in NCAA Division I for single-game performances. She has collected 121 saves so far this year with a .457 save percentage and 13.31 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
Lehigh is coming off a 14-5 win over Bucknell on Sunday after putting up a strong defensive effort in the second half to hit a 10-2 scoring run. Haley Wentzel led the Mountain Hawks with five goals followed by three from both Sondra Dickey and Julianne Puckette.
