WASHINGTON – The American University women's lacrosse team returns home on Wednesday to face No. 11 Navy on Jacobs Field for a 4 p.m. draw.
The Eagles are 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the Patriot League after dropping a 20-10 decision to Colgate on Saturday. Navy (11-3, 5-1 PL) enters the midweek contest off a pair of back-to-back wins against No. 11 Virginia, 16-13, and Patriot League rival Army West Point, 20-7.
The Mids have controlled the series against the Eagles, 11-1, with the only AU victory coming out of the 2008 season after the Eagles passed through Navy during the Patriot League Tournament, 17-15.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Freshman Emma Vinall and sophomore Amanda Medjid led the Eagles with a pair of hat tricks during Saturday's 20-10 loss to Colgate. Vinall, who now has six hat trick so far this season, leads the team in scoring with 27 goals after 11 games. She ranks second in total points for the season behind sophomore Erica Skowron, who has 35 points with 13 goals and 22 assists. After contributing a pair of assists against Colgate on Saturday, Skowron is now only two away from tying the single-season program record (24), currently held by Olivia Mangan from the 2016 season.
Junior Sydney Fry continues to step up on the defensive end with a career-high 30 ground balls while Brennan ranks first with a career-high 50 draw controls.
Sophomore Ana Freda has gotten the start in goal over the last few games and is averaging 19.03 goals against per game with a .338 save percentage. Junior Fiona Geier is currently 10 saves away from 100 for the season and is averaging 13.5 goals against per game and a .431 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
No. 11 Navy enters the game off a dominating 20-7 victory over Army West Point on Saturday behind the six-goal effort of Jenna Collins for her 12th hat trick of the year. Collins leads the Mids with 70 points and ranks first in the Patriot League with 55 goals. Kelly Larkin follows close behind with 69 points (39 goals, 30 assists).
Collins also holds team-highs with 38 ground balls and 66 draw controls and ranks in the top-five of the Patriot League for both categories.
Ingrid Boyum leads the team from the net with a .390 save percentage and averages 10.97 goals against per game.
