Hat Tricks Not Enough to Lift @AU_Lacrosse Over Colgate

Amanda Medjid vs. Boston University

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team fell to Colgate in a 20-10 decision on Saturday, despite a pair of hat trick performances from sophomore Amanda Medjid and freshman Emma Vinall.

The Eagles are now 3-10 overall this season and 0-5 in the Patriot League while the Raiders bump up to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

In only her second game back since missing four due to injury, freshman Emma Vinall earned her sixth hat trick of the season, helping lead the Eagles with three goals. Medjid joined Vinall with her first hat trick of the season, second of her career.

Sophomore Erica Skowron and freshman Kendall Goldblum rounded out AU's scoring efforts with two goals each. Goldblum also added an assist while Skowron contributed two for a team-high four points.

Sophomore Ana Freda made her third consecutive start in goal and picked up seven saves while helping lead the team with three ground balls alongside sophomore Casey Harkins and junior Sydney Fry.

Goldblum fell just short of tying her career-best with a team-high five draw controls.

Payton Gabriel put away five goals to lead the Raiders, followed by four from Natalie Washuta and three from Kristen Brigagliano and Haley O'Hanlon. Brigagliano and O'Hanlon also added two assists to come away with a game-high five points each.

Washuta brought down a game-high six draw controls while Samantha Croston and O'Hanlon each collected four ground balls.

Colgate rose to an early 4-0 lead before Vinall was able to get American on the board after a yellow card on Colgate's Ingrid Backe gave the Eagles a player-up advantage. Brigagliano and Washuta both hit their second goals of the game to give the Raiders a 6-1 advantage, but the Eagles were able to land back within one after goals from Skowron, Goldblum, Medjid, and Vinall brought the score to 7-6 with 13:00 left in the first half.

Colgate closed the half with a 5-1 run to rebuild a five-goal lead and held the Eagles to only three points in the second half to close with the 20-10 victory.

The Eagles will return home on Wednesday, April 18, for a 4 p.m. draw against Navy. For the latest on American Lacrosse, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_Lacrosse.
