WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Emma Vinall scored three goals for American University, but Richmond got seven from Kim Egizi to take a 13-6 victory on Saturday in the Eagles' women's lacrosse season-opener at Jacobs Field.

Lexi Perez and Peyton Smith added a goal apiece for AU, while Erica Skowron had two assists. Izabella Jade also got an assist for the Eagles.

Egizi, a senior for Richmond, had three of her goals in the first half, as the Spiders held a 6-0 halftime lead. The advantage grew to 10-1 with 20:32 to play on Egizi's fifth goal before American's offense began to click.

Vinall scored on a free-position shot with 8:42 left, and converted AU's final two goals of the game on assists from Skowron to earn the hat trick in her collegiate debut.

Junior goalkeeper Fiona Geier had 14 saves in the AU net.

American was outshot 33-23 in the game, but only by 15-13 in the second half. Richmond held a 15-5 advantage in draw controls.
