Eagles Ready to Open Home Conference Schedule

WASHINGTON - The American University lacrosse team will open its home conference schedule on Saturday, March 25, as the Eagles prepare to host Lehigh at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Field.

The Eagles are 2-6 for the season, 0-1 in the Patriot League, after falling to Colgate during the league opener, 15-6, on Saturday, March 18.  The Mountain Hawks are 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the PL after they opened their conference slate with a 10-3 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, March 18.

American holds an 11-7 record against Lehigh with the last win coming in 2013 when the Eagles overpowered the Mountain Hawks, 16-8, in Bethlehem, Pa.  AU dropped a 10-6 decision against Lehigh during the 2015 season despite a four-point effort from senior Jessica Wojciechowski, who recorded her first of three hat tricks of the season during the March 26 contest.

American fell in its conference opener last weekend after a second half run from Colgate gave the Raiders the 15-6 win on their home field.  For the third time this season, it was newcomer Erica Skowron who led the Eagles with two points for the day.  Fellow-freshman Izabella Lopez, sophomore Brooke Stapleton, and seniors Madison Hoon and Sarah Bootman contributed one goal each.

Junior Jennifer DeSimone continues to lead the Eagles' scoring efforts for the season with 17 points (17 goals) out of the first eight games of the year.  Bootman follows with 14 points for the season (eight goals, six assists), already surpassing her previous season-best from 2016 by five points.

On the defensive end, it's Hoon that has led the way for AU with 21 ground balls and 33 draw controls so far this season.  She has also forced a team-high 16 turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Fiona Geier has started all eight games this season and has a goals-against average of 12.71.

The Eagles average 7.25 goals per game to their opponents' 13.25 per game.

Lehigh enters the weekend matchup on a four-game winning streak, including a 12-11 overtime victory against Columbia on Wednesday, March 22.  The Mountain Hawks were led by a five-point effort (three goals, two assists) from senior Allison LaBeau while senior Lauren Beausoleil put up a team-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

LaBeau leads the Mountain Hawks with 31 points this season (16 points, 15 assists), followed by junior Haley Wentzel's 18 points (16 goals, two assists).  Senior Taylor Tvedt has started all eight games for Lehigh and is ranked 15th in the NCAA with her 8.93 goals against average.

The Mountain Hawks average 11.25 goals per game while their opponents only average 9.25.

This is the first of a two-game home stretch for the Eagles, who will also host Loyola Maryland at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29.
