Lacrosse Falls in Road Contest Against Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - The American University lacrosse team was unable to come back after an early scoring streak from Richmond on Saturday, March 4, as the Eagles fell to the Spiders on the road, 15-5.

AU is now 0-5 for the season heading into the final two games of the nonconference schedule.  The Spiders rise to 3-1 overall.

Junior Jennifer DeSimone led the Eagles once again with a three-goal effort, starting with AU's first goal of the day off of an assist from freshman Erica Skowron midway through the first half.  Freshman Caitlin Schaefer put the Eagles up on the board for the second time with a minute left in the first half, but by then the Spiders had an 8-point edge over American, who went into the locker room at a 10-2 deficit.

The Eagles had a strong start to the second half, though, with Schaefer putting away her second goal of the day within the first ten minutes.  DeSimone followed with a pair of her own, putting AU within five of the Spiders with less than 20 minutes left in the game.  From there, though, Richmond went on a run of their own, netting the final five goals of the game to close with the 15-5 win.

The Eagles had 17 shots to Richmond's 40, and trailed the Spiders 15-26 in ground balls.

AU will be back on the road on March 11 for a 1 p.m. contest against Old Dominion.  For the latest on American Lacrosse, stay tuned to and follow the team on Twitter @AU_Lacrosse.
