ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman goalkeeper Rose Redfoot notched a career-high 18 saves, but the American lacrosse team was unable to get past Navy, dropping an 11-5 decision in Patriot League action on Wednesday.
The Mids, who average 15.2 goals per contest, got out to a hot start, taking a 6-0 lead with just over 16 minutes remaining in the opening half. Senior Jamie Silverman ended the Navy run with an AU score at the 13:22 mark and junior Jessica Wojciechowski added two more scores for the Eagles, but Navy went into the intermission with an 8-3 advantage.
In the second half, Redfoot turned in an outstanding performance, tallying 13 saves to help stifle Navy's offense, but American never got closer than five goals.
Silverman and Wojciechowski both finished with two goals for the Eagles, while senior Jordan Harrington added a goal and an assist.
Navy (9-1, 3-0 PL) held a distinct edge on shots taken, outshooting American 41-12 for the game. The Mids also won 13-of-18 draw controls and had just 13 turnovers, compared to 26 for the Eagles.
The Eagles (2-8, 0-3 PL) return to action this Saturday, March 21, for a non-conference matchup versus Old Dominion.
