BOSTON – Plagued by an offensive drought in the second half, the American University lacrosse team fell to Boston University, 13-5, Saturday in the Patriot League opener for both teams.
For the Terriers (3-2, 1-0 PL), Ally Adams erupted for five goals, while netminder Caroline Meegan registered 10 saves.
The game remained close for much of the opening half, with the Eagles trailing 6-4 in the final minute of the period. However, a missed scoring opportunity by American led to a fast-break goal by BU with just three seconds on the clock to give the Terriers a 7-4 advantage at the intermission.
After BU opened the second half with a quick goal, Silverman got on the board with an assist from sophomore Madison Hoon to get American back within three. However, the Eagles were shut out for the remainder of the period, while the Terriers added five more scores, including four in the final six and a half minutes of action.
For the game, BU had a 27-20 shot advantage and a 14-10 edge on ground balls. The big difference came between the pipes, as Meegan notched seven of her 10 stops in the second half alone.
The Eagles return home for their next contest, hosting Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, March 11, at 3 p.m.
