WASHINGTON – The American University lacrosse team officially gets the 2015 season underway this Saturday, Feb. 14, when it visits Wagner in a non-conference match-up. The game is slated to begin at noon at Hameline Field.
The Eagles are coming off an impressive 20-9 victory over VCU last weekend in exhibition play. American, which held a 33-14 edge on shots and a 26-14 advantage in ground balls, outscored the Rams 9-2 in the second half to cruise to the win.
Senior Jordan Harrington finished with eight points, including a team-best five assists, to lead the Eagles against VCU, while junior attacker Jessica Wojciechowski added five goals. Additionally, Olivia Mangan and Terese Buechli each tallied two goals and two assists for American.
Wagner, which was picked to finish second in the NEC preseason poll, enters the weekend with an 0-1 record after dropping a 9-7 decision to Bucknell on Tuesday.
The Seahawks, who never led in their season opener, had seven different players find the back of the cage against the Bison. Kimmy Tumolo and Shea Gegan were the leading scorers for Wagner with one goal and one assist each, while goalkeeper Katie Ferraro registered 10 saves for the Seahawks.
