Women’s Lacrosse Visits Virginia Tech Saturday

The American University women’s lacrosse team will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech on Saturday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m.

The Eagles (5-8, 3-2 PL) have faced Patriot League foes in each of its previous three games, going 2-1 during the stretch. AU defeated Lehigh and Lafayette before falling at Navy, 15-14, in its most recent contest on Wednesday, Lauren Schoenberger registered a game-high five points on four goals and an assist against the Midshipmen. Amanda Makoid also recorded a hat trick for the Eagles.

American’s defensive efforts against Navy were led by Brit Ferguson, who notched seven draw controls. Emily Stankiewicz added four draw controls and three groundballs, while goaltender Frankie Solomon made 10 saves in the game.

For the season, the Eagles are led by Schoenberger’s 36 points on 22 goals and a team-high 14 assists. Makoid has recorded a team-leading 25 goals. On the defensive side, Stankiewicz has earned 33 draw controls to lead the squad, and Emma Larkin has registered team-highs with 29 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers.  

Virginia Tech (4-9, 0-4 ACC) comes into Saturday’s contest after losing back-to-back games against No. 3 North Carolina and Virginia. The Hokies are led by Jessica Nonn, who has a team-leading 27 goals, 37 groundballs collected and 22 caused turnovers. Allie Emala paces Virginia Tech with 37 points and 73 draw controls.

AU and Virginia Tech have faced four common opponents so far in 2010 – Drexel, George Mason, George Washington and Old Dominion – and share a 1-3 record against the group. Both squads defeated Old Dominion for their lone win against the four.
