WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team was ranked No. 20 for the second-straight week in the Oct. 7 STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Eagles went 2-0 this week, defeating Patriot League opponent Holy Cross, 4-0, and La Salle, 3-0.

The Eagles evened out their record at 5-5 heading into this weekend, when they will travel to New York for a two-game stand. AU will kick-off the weekend with a conference game at Colgate on Saturday at 11 a.m. Last season, the Eagles defeated the Raiders, 2-1, in the regular season meeting, before defeating them, 4-1, in the Patriot League semifinal.

Following Saturday's game, American will head to Syracuse to take on the No. 2 Orange at 2 p.m. The Eagles dropped their match to Syracuse a year ago by a 3-1 score.

"This weekend will provide another stiff challenge with tough league opponent Colgate and undefeated and No. 2 ranked Syracuse," said AU head coach Steve Jennings. "We will look to continue our growth as a team with special focus on the details which will bring us the best opportunities to win--we know it will not be easy."
