Poorman and Dyer Earn PL Field Hockey Weekly Awards

Sept. 22, 2008
WASHINGTON - American University had two field hockey players honored by the Patriot League for their efforts in a pair of contests last week. The Eagles fell to No. 2 Maryland, 2-1, and No. 7 James Madison, 1-0, but played solid defensively as Alyssa Poorman garnered Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Tatum Dyer earned her second straight Rookie of the Week award.
Poorman owned a .826 save percentage against a pair of top-10 teams this week, allowing just one goal to No. 2 Maryland and two to No. 7 James Madison. Against the Terps, Poorman faced 11 shots on goal and made nine stops for an .818 save percentage. She posted an .833 save percentage against James Madison, turning away five of six shots faced. Maryland was held below its season scoring average of 4.62, as was James Madison, which averages 2.0 goals per contest.
Dyer was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second-consecutive time after providing strong defense versus two nationally-ranked teams. She has played in every minute of every contest so far this season and helped lead the Eagles to hold both No. 2 Maryland and No. 7 James Madison to under their season scoring averages.
AU will resume non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. against Richmond before opening up PL play on Oct. 4 at 12 p.m. against Holy Cross on Jacobs Field.
