Javiera Villagra enters her first season as a volunteer assistant coach after wrapping her career as AU's most decorated player in history.
As a member of Jenning's staff, the Santiago, Chile, native will work primarily in the midfield where she was a three-year starter and All-American for the Eagles. Villagra will also be training with the team as she prepares to rejoin the Chilean National Team, which she has had involvement with since 1997.
During her three seasons at American, the former captain amassed 89 points on 41 goals and seven assists, good enough for sixth all-time in program history. As a senior Villagra was a First Team All-America selection, her second straight First Team honor and third overall, making her the first AU field hockey player to be named to the squad three times.
Villagra was also a three-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and a three-time First Team All-Region member. Villagra started and played in all 65 games while she was a member of the Eagles, finishing first on the team in goals as a sophomore with 17. The Santiago, Chile, native finished her career with seven game-winning goals for American.
Before transferring to AU as a sophomore, Villagra was enrolled at the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educacion. Villagra served as captain of the U-21 Chilean Junior National team, where she participated in the 2000 Junior Pan American Games and the 2001 Junior World Cup. As a member of the Chilean National squad she played in the 2003 and 2004 Pan American Games.
Villagra graduated in December of 2005 with a degree in Health Promotion and is currently in graduate school at American. She currently resides in Bethesda, Md.
