| Sarah Krombolz enters her eighth season with the American University field hockey squad after being named Associate Head Coach in August of 2007. In January of 2008 she received her U.S. Field Hockey Association Level II Coaching Certification. Krombolz has helped the Eagles to five consecutive Patriot League Championships, which included four straight NCAA Tournament berths (2003-2006) and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 2004. Coaching Career: A defensive standout at the University of Iowa, Krombolz works primarily with the defense and the goalkeepers, constantly strengthening one of the nation's top units. Under her tutelage, Denise Infante garnered back-to-back All-American honors before graduating in 2008. In the memorable 2005 season, the former Hawkeye helped American University's defense rank seventh in the country in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 1.22 goals per game. The 2005 team achieved national rankings as high as fourth in the country, eventually finishing the season at spot No. 6. Since joining the AU coaching staff in 2001, Krombolz continues to bring extensive knowledge and experience to the turf. The 2008 summer marked the fourth year that Krombolz has directed her own camp through Revolution Camps. Currently, Krombolz runs the USFHA Futures Northern Virginia Site at American University, working as the head coach and site director. Krombolz has also been an assistant coach for two years with the Maryland High Performance Team. Playing Career: As a student-athlete at the University of Iowa, Krombolz was an All-America pick in 1999, a two time All-Region selection (1998, 1999) and a three-time All-Big Ten selection as a four-year starter for the Hawkeyes. As a senior captain and the team co-MVP, Krombolz was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team while helping Iowa to the 1999 NCAA Final Four. In her final season donning an Iowa uniform, the Hawkeyes went 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten on their home turf at Grant Field, just one win away from matching the perfect 10-0 record set in 1992. |
