In 2015, American University Class of 2011 alumna Kirstin Gebhart enters her second season as an assistant coach on head coach Steve Jennings' staff.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kirstin back to AU--her passion, knowledge and dedication will be a major asset for us as we look to continue our growth as a program,” said Jennings upon the hiring of Gebhart. “We are so proud to see her return to AUFH!"
Prior to her return to American, Gebhart served as an assistant coach at Louisville for two seasons, helping lead the Cardinals to back-to-back BIG EAST Semifinal appearances with an overall mark of 27-13. She has also served as a coach in the United States Field Hockey Association’s Futures system from 2008-2013 and is certified as a USFHA Level II Coach.
As a player at AU, Gebhart helped lead the Eagles to four consecutive Patriot League Championships and three NCAA Tournament berths, with the team ranking in the top 10 nationally during each of her four years. A four-year starter at midfield, Gebhart was a three-time All-Patriot League selection, earning second-team All-Mid Atlantic Region honors twice in her career.
Gebhart finished her AU career with 41 points, tallying nine goals and 23 assists, and posted 15 assists in her senior year, a total which ranks sixth in single-season history at American. She was also an academic standout for the Eagles, earning four consecutive NFHCA Academic Squad and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll awards.
