Field hockey huddle

WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team fell in its first major test of the 2019 season on Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 16 Delaware.

  • Junior Noor Coenen had some good looks throughout the game with three shots on goal while junior Gaby de Kock added one.
  • Both teams were even in penalty corners with three.
  • The Blue Hens laid on the pressure throughout the game, scoring once each quarter.
  • Delaware put three players on the board starting with Femke Strien who paced the team with two goals. Bo van Hunnik and Grace Hoepfner added one each.

"The team fought very hard tonight against an excellent Delaware team. I think we can take a great deal away from this game in what we learned both from our opponent and ourselves. I look forward to seeing us put the lessons learned to great use on Sunday against ODU."

The Eagles will make another quick turnaround this weekend as they head to Old Dominion for a noon start on Sunday.
