GILBERT, Ariz. - Only two days after the American University field hockey team was selected for its 15th consecutive Zag/NFHCA National Academic Team Award, two Eagles earned individual honors as junior Maura Jacobs and freshman Meagan Mitchell were both recognized as Zag/NFHcA Scholars of Distinction.
Jacobs and Mitchell were among the 138 student-athletes from 61 schools who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.90 during the fall 2017 semester.
This is the third Scholar of Distinction award for Jacobs, who holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA in public relations and strategic communication. Jacobs was the fourth consecutive AU student-athlete to be selected as the Corvias Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year this fall after she led the team from the cage with 46 saves, a .639 save percentage and a league-high 1.56 goals against average. Mitchell, on the other hand, is a first-time honoree after she closed her fall semester with a 4.00 GPA in neuroscience.
