WASHINGTON - The American University field hockey team ranked among the best in the NCAA once again on Tuesday, as the team was selected for its 15th consecutive Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award with an impressive 3.58 team GPA.
The Eagles hold the fifth-highest team GPA in the country, making this the third consecutive year and 11th in the past 15 years that the team has landed among the top five of Division I academic standings.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.00 during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
"Our whole staff is struck with awe and admiration for our student-athletes who are the embodiment of the NCAA ideal," head coach Steve Jennings said. "The constant academic excellence exhibited by our team is simply staggering and is a reflection of how they apply themselves to every endeavor - we could not be prouder of our incredible student-athletes."
