CENTER VALLEY - Junior goalkeeper Maura Jacobs became the fourth consecutive American University field hockey player to be selected as the Corvias Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, as she led the group of three Eagles recognized on the 2017 PL Field Hockey Academic All-Patriot League Team.
Voting was conducted by the league's field hockey sports information contacts, who were not able to vote for their own student-athletes.
Jacobs, a native of New Cumberland, Pa., has led the team from the cage this season. She closed the regular season with a league-leading 1.56 goals against average and totaled 46 saves for a .639 save percentage. Jacobs is studying public relations and strategic communication and holds a 3.98 cumulative grade point average (GPA). She is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad member and has helped the team to two top-five rankings for Division I Field Hockey GPA's, including leading the country in 2015.
Bowcutt, a senior forward from Annapolis, Md., earned her first Academic All-League selection after carrying a 3.72 GPA as a film and media arts major. Bowcutt has had a record-breaking season so far, earning her career-highs in goals (10), assists (8) and points (28).
Rubas, a junior forward from Vienna, Austria, also made her Academic All-League debut only a day after being selected as the 2017 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. She holds a 3.67 GPA and is studying business administration.
A two-time NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad and Patriot League Honor Roll selection, Rubas closed the regular season with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points.
AU tops the league alongside Boston University with three selections each to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Bucknell had two selections and Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh each had one.
