CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Rafaela Rubas was selected as the Patriot League Corvias Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 30, after leading the team with three goals over the weekend.
This is the second PL weekly nod for the junior midfielder, who closed the regular season with a career-high 12 goals and a team-high eight assists for another career-high of 32 points.
Rubas claimed a pair of clutch goals over the two-game weekend starting with the game-tying goal in the final two minutes against No. 13 Wake Forest to push the game into overtime where the Eagles eventually fell, 4-3. She scored two of the three AU goals on Sunday against Appalachian State, including another equalizer to put the Eagles into their fifth overtime period of the season. A goal from freshman Noor Coenen in the final seconds of extra time gave the Eagles the 3-2 victory over the Mountaineers.
Rubas, who entered the season as the PL preseason selection for Offensive Player of the Year, will return to the turf with the rest of the team this weekend, as the Eagles travel to Boston for the Patriot League Tournament. AU will look to defend its title starting at 3 p.m. on Friday when the Eagles play Bucknell in the tournament semifinal round.
