CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the second consecutive week, an American University field hockey player has earned a spot on the Corvias Patriot League Field Hockey Weekly Awards, as junior Maura Jacobs was selected as goalkeeper of the week.
Jacobs highlighted the two-game weekend at the Terrapin Invitational with her third shutout of the season, putting up three saves during the Eagles' 5-0 win over Towson on Sunday. She tallied back-to-back shutout performances the weekend prior in Michigan, helping the team to a 1-0 win over Michigan State (Sept. 1) and a 6-0 triumph over Central Michigan (Sept. 3).
Jacobs also put up a season-high nine saves against No. 9 Louisville on Friday, allowing only two goals to the tough Cardinal offense during the Eagles' 2-1 loss.
She now leads the PL with her three shutouts so far this season and ranks third with a 1.40 goals against average.
American will make its home debut on Saturday, Sept. 16, with the first Patriot League matchup of the season against Bucknell, followed by a Sunday matinee against Drexel on Jacobs Field.
