WASHINGTON – With conference seeding on the line, the American University field hockey team hosts Boston University this Friday, Oct. 24, in a 3 p.m. contest.
Holding identical 3-1 records in Patriot League action, American and BU have already clinched spots in the PL Tournament and are currently tied for second in the league standings, along with Colgate.
The Eagles own an 8-6 overall record this season and are coming off a 4-1 victory over Colgate, as they handed the Raiders their first conference loss of the season.
Junior Jess Davis led AU against Colgate, scoring a career-high two goals to earn Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors. Sophomore Natalie Konerth and junior Isabel Terwindt also found the back of the net versus the Raiders, while senior Carly Atchison recorded a pair of assists.
Senior Grace Wilson, who was selected as the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and 10th time in her career, leads the Eagles with 14 total points (5g, 4a) this season. Junior goalkeeper Kate McBeath ranks in the top 10 nationally in goals against average (1.11) and has posted seven shutouts this season.
Boston University enters Friday's game with an 8-7 overall record after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Massachusetts last weekend. Sophomore Amanda Cassera scored the Terriers' only goal of the game, converting a penalty stroke in the second half.
Cassera has scored a league-high 19 points this season, registering eight goals and three assists, while three other players have added 11 points each for BU. In net, goalkeeper Valentina Cerda Eimbcke has posted a .740 save percentage and 1.62 goals against average.
