The American University field hockey team received three Patriot League weekly awards, conference officials announced Monday. Gina Hofmann was named the Defensive Player of the Week, Ashley Dalisera earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors and Julie Fosseprez was recognized as Rookie of the Week.
Hofmann received her first Defensive Player of the Week nod of the season after playing a key role in leading American to its first two wins of the year and helping limit its two opponents to just one goal during the weekend. The Braunschweig, Germany native registered the assist on Shelly Montgomery’s game-winning goal to upset No. 19 Massachusetts in double-overtime on Sunday. She also had a number of goal line saves as she helped the Eagles to their first shutout of the weekend against Dartmouth.
The senior was also named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Dalisera had a huge weekend for the Eagles, opening the Terrapin Invitational with her first shutout of the year. The junior recorded four saves as American earned its first win of the season over Dartmouth. The Millersville, Md. native then returned to action against No. 19 Massachusetts on Sunday and posted a career-high 14 saves with a .947 save percentage in the game.
Fosseprez started her first two games for the Eagles at the midfield over the weekend and made an immediate impact. The Namur, Belgium native continually changed the games for American with her passing. She also had a strong defensive presence to help the Eagles to the shutout victory over Dartmouth and double-overtime win against No. 19 Massachusetts.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they head to East Lansing, Mich. for the weekend to face Michigan State on Friday, September 14 at 6 p.m. American will then take on either Central Michigan or Louisville on Sunday, September 16.
