Johnson's Points, Assists Lead Delaware to 80-51 Women's Basketball Win over American

December 17, 2000 - NEWARK, DE - Senior guard Cindy Johnson scored 24 points and dished out a career-high eight assists to lead the University of Delaware to its record 11th straight win at the Bob Carpenter Center with an 80-51 non-league women's basketball victory over American University Sunday afternoon.

Johnson erupted for 20 points and five assists in the first half alone to stake the Blue Hens (8-3) to a 44-25 halftime lead. American (2-8) lost its fourth straight game despite 12 points from forward Maria Werries and 10 points from forward Jina Lewis. Forward Hollie Steinman added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Delaware junior guard Megan Dellegrotti matched a career with 18 points, including four three-pointers, while senior forward Danielle Leyfert added 14 points and five assists. Junior forward Christina Rible added eight points and pulled 10 rebounds for the Hens.

Delaware, which has now won three straight games and six of its last seven outings, shot 62 percent from the field in the first half (18 of 29) to jump out to the 19-point halftime lead and connected on 51 percent of their shots for the game (30 of 59). The Hens' 11 straight home wins is just two shy of the all-time home win streak record of 13 set in 1983-84 when the Blue Hens played home games at the Delaware Field House.
