WASHINGTON, D.C. - American University's Basketball Doubleheader this Wednesday, November 29, with the Women vs. Navy and the Men vs. Bucknell, has been changed to 5:30 PM and 7.30 PM, respectively, in Bender Arena.
The rapidly improving AU Men's Basketball team topped Loyola for a 2-0 start at home for new Head Coach Jeff Jones. They lost at West Virginia as they trailed by only four points with just over two minutes remaining. This week, they host Bucknell on a doubleheader and travel to Coastal Carolina. Ronald Hearns (Sr., G, Detroit, MI/ Mercy) has paced four Eagles averaging in double-figures this season with 16.7 points per game. In the win over Loyola, Hearns scored 21 points while Jernavis Draughn (Fr., F, Dumfries, VA/ Potomac) had a career-high 19 points. Bucknell is 3-1 this season.
The AU Women's Basketball team faced three tough competitors last week playing host to Washington State before traveling to the competitive Iowa Gazette Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa, featuring first round opponent Nevada-Reno and later Western Illinois. With a loss to Washington State the week before, the Eagles will look to turn things around as they host Navy early in the week followed by the Second Annual AU Tip Off Classic which includes Delaware State, St. Francis of New York and NCAA participant Holy Cross. Jina Lewis (Sr., F, New Castle, DE/William Penn) is averaging 14.5 points per game this season. Navy is 3-2 on the year.
