WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team was recently honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association as an Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll selection. AU was the only team from the Patriot League named to the list.
The Eagles ranked 17th and held a 3.342 cumulatively throughout the season to add to its success on the court. AU had one of its best showings in 2007-08, with the team finishing 18-12 and advancing to the WNIT, the program's first post-season berth since 1998. The Eagles also broke program records in consecutive wins (11), consecutive conference wins (11) and consecutive road wins (7).
"Being honored as a top-25 team academically in addition to having a great season is a testament to how hard our student-athletes work both on and off the court, and we are certainly proud of our women's basketball team's achievements." said AU Director of Athletics and Recreation, Keith Gill.
American will open its 2008-09 campaign under first-year head coach Matt Corkery on November 14th at NJIT.
