WASHINGTON - American University's women's basketball team placed nine student-athletes on the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, league officials announced on Wednesday.
Freshman Sahar Nusseibeh (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) led the Eagles with a 3.70 grade point average in the spring semester. Graduate student Tala Hadavi (Uppsala, Sweden/Vasalundsskolan) and senior Alicia Zorzetto (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Meyer) earned their third straight award while Katie Hirschler (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), Jessica Tenuta (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford) and Tara Williams (Newport News, Va./Heritage) each picked up their second award. Transfer student Liz Hayes (Easton, Pa./Easton) and freshmen Talicia Jackson (Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle) and Nicole Ryan (Safety Harbor, Fla./Clearwater) were named to the list for the first time.

Army, Holy Cross and Lafayette each had five with Bucknell and Colgate earning four spots apiece and Navy having two athletes represented. Holy Cross' Brittany Keil was named as the 2006 Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year earlier in the season.
"The fact that we placed nine players on the academic honor roll, not only reflects their commitment to excellence in the classroom, but also the academic values of our program," said head coach Melissa McFerrin. "These student-athletes compete against a very talented student body at American University for grades. Obviously they compete very well. I am so proud of these players and their efforts in the classroom. I am confident that we will continue to see results like this from these players and others."
A total of 977 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, to be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter.
The Eagles return virtually all their starters from last year's squad along with the addition of two transfers and a pair of freshmen.
