WASHINGTON -
Former University of Delaware guard Karleena Tobin has been hired as Graduate Manager with American University's women's basketball team, Head Coach Melissa McFerrin announced on Tuesday.
"Karleena has a great exposure to the operation of a high level Division I basketball program from her time at Delaware," said McFerrin. "She has a great desire to succeed in this profession, has unquestioned character and will be an excellent role model for our players."
At American, the Baltimore, Md., native will be responsible for team travel, equipment, alumni correspondence and film exchange. She will also assist with camps and on-campus recruiting.
As a guard with Delaware, Tobin helped the Blue Hens to three 20-plus win seasons and a trio of Post Season Women's National Invitational Tournament bids. Under head coach Tina Martin, Tobin's Delaware squads went 88-33 overall, capturing the Colonial Athletic Associations's regular season championship twice. Tobin and Blue Hens twice finished as runners up in the CAA Championship.
In her senior season, Tobin was given the Delaware Sportsmanship Award, which honors a student-athlete who has been outstanding role model and displayed outstanding sportsmanship toward their teammates, coaches, opponents and game officials.
"As has been our custom, we will continue to emphasize recruiting and exposure for our program in the D.C. Metro and regional area," said McFerrrin. "Karleena's ties to Baltimore will continue that emphasis. We are excited to have Karleena join us as we continue our quest to become the pride of the Patriot League."
Tobin earned her degree in Human Services from the University of Delaware in May, 2006. She currently resides in her native Baltimore, Md. The Eagles return virtually all their starters from last year's squad along with the addition of two transfers and a pair of freshmen.
