WASHINGTON - American University freshman forward Tish Curry (Pennsauken, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Curry picks up her second ROW performance after enjoying a career day in American's 89-81 overtime win against Navy last Tuesday. Against the Mids, Curry put up career highs in points, rebounds and assists. The Pennsauken, N.J., native racked up 21 points and four assists against Navy with her grabbing 18 rebounds.
In addition to her 18 rebounds being a PL conference high this season, the performance marked the first time since 1996 an AU player tallied that many boards. The forward leads the team on the glass with 7.3 rebounds per game, which also ranks her fourth in the Patriot League. Curry also had a good game against Lafayette on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds and scoring six points. Curry also earned ROW honors back on Dec. 12.
"Tish probably had one of the best performances of the year in the conference, regardless of her freshman status. She is really starting to exert herself on the glass, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
American, the seventh seed in this weekend's opening round of the Patriot League Tournament, travels to Worcester, Mass., to take on second seeded Holy Cross on Thurs. March 2. The Crusaders and Eagles tip off at 8 p.m.
