WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball will look to extend its winning streak to nine games and clinch at least a share of the regular season title when they host Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bender Arena. The Eagles will honor their three seniors, Stephanie N'Garsanet, Liz Hayes and Maggie Smith-Davidson, prior to the start of the game.
American (15-12, 9-3 PL) is coming off an enormous overtime win against Holy Cross, 76-71, on Saturday. The win, coupled with a Lehigh loss, gave the Eagles sole possession of first place in the Patriot League. Five Eagles tallied in double digits in the win, led by Hayes' 17 points. Pam Stanfield added 15, Talicia Jackson had 14, N'Garsanet added 10 and Liz Leer tallied 12 as she garnered PL Baden Rookie of the Week honors for the third consecutive week.
Navy (6-21, 2-10) just fell in an overtime contest, falling 70-66, to arch-rivals Army at the Black Knights' Christl Arena. Cassie Consedine's 17 points paced all players in the game and she was one of three Mids to haul in six rebounds. One of those additional players with six caroms was Gordon, who also added 16 points in the contest, while Kalen Kropa totaled 11 points and five assists.
AU will conclude its regular season on Saturday at Lafayette. The game can be seen at 12 noon RCN-TV channel 8 in the DC Metro area.
