Feb. 18, 2008

WASHINGTON - American University women's basketball player Liz Leer has been named the Patriot League Baden Rookie of the Week for the second time in as many weeks, the league announced today. Leer, who averaged 13 points per game last week, helped lead the Eagles to their fifth and sixth straight victories, while moving into a four-way tie atop the conference standings.

Leer was the game's high scorer at Bucknell, as the Eagles downed the Bison 50-46. Leer tallied 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks in 24 minutes of action. The freshman forward shot .727 from the floor (8-11) and went two of two from the free throw line. Leer chipped in eight points and five rebounds in American's 73-46 win over Colgate on Saturday as the Eagles climbed to 13-12 (7-3 PL), posting a winning record for the first time since Dec. 19, when the squad was 6-5.

AU will look to win its seventh game in a row, and extend its record road winning streak to six, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Army.
