AU's Liz Hayes Named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District First Team

WASHINGTON - American University women's basketball player Liz Hayes was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's basketball team as announced by CoSIDA today, Feb. 7. Hayes, a senior guard, was named to the first team in District II and joins Sarah-Jo Lawrence (George Washington), Crystal Langhorne (Maryland), Stacie Witman (Villanova) and Kristi Veltkamp (Maryland Eastern Shore) in the honor.

Hayes is leading the team in scoring and is third in the Patriot League, averaging 13.7 points per game and has started all 22 games for the 10-12 Eagles. Hayes is also first on the squad in assists (3.5 apg), three-point baskets (49) and free throws (63) made and has been named PL Baden Player of the Week three times this season.

Carrying a 3.61 grade point average in public communications, Hayes holds the program record for three-point field goals made in a game (7) and three-point baskets made in a season (78) and is already second in career treys after only playing at American for one and a half seasons (127).
