WASHINGTON - American University women's basketball's Michelle Kirk has been named the Patriot League Baden Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. Kirk averaged 21.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg last week and recorded her second-career double-double.
Kirk guided the Eagles to a 1-1 week in the Patriot League. Kirk scored a career-high 27 points on Wednesday in AU's 68-61 loss against Navy and pulled down 11 rebounds to mark her second double-double in as many games. She shot 12-of-22 from the floor, 2-of-4 from three-point range and was credited with two steals and one block. Kirk returned to the court on Saturday and led the Eagles to a 72-61 victory over Lafayette. She scored 15 points against the Leopards with a 9-of-10 performance from the free-throw line. Kirk narrowly missed recording a third-consecutive double-double with nine rebounds.
Kirk averaged a double-double for the week with 21.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg. She shot 50.0 percent (15-30) from the floor, 76.9 percent (10-13) from the line and tallied 1.5 spg. This is Kirk's first career PL Player of the Week honor.
Kirk and the Eagles will return to action this Saturday, Feb. 7, at home against Lehigh at 4 p.m. The game will be host to National Girls and Women in Sports Day and will be broadcast live to a national TV audience on ESPNU.
