WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tough defense and rebounding propelled the Bearcats past the Eagles, 64-52, this evening in front of 317 fans in Bender Arena.

The Bearcats extended a one point halftime lead with an 13-4 run and never looked back. Portia Flournoy's lay-up with 4:07 remaining gave UC its biggest lead of the game, 54-41. T he Bearcts hit 10 of their final 14 free throws to secure the victory.

Cincinnati (4-1), coming off a win over Coastal Carolina last Saturday, shot 17-for-55 from the field. Valerie King's 18 points led three Bearcats in double digits. Wilder added 11 points and a career high 22 rebounds as Cincinnati out-rebounded AU 53-32.

American (2-6) was led by Erin Brady (G, So., Weatherly, PA/Marion Catholic) who scored 15 points and added 4 assists and 5 steals on her birthday. Junior Hollie Steinman (F, Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) added 9 points and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Jina Lewis (F, Sr., New Castle, DE/William Penn) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds.

With the game tied at 19-19 with 3:39 remaining in the half the Bearcats went on an 5-4 run to edge the Eagles by one, 24-23, at the break. The Eagles were paced by Brady's seven points, while Kristen Sharp of Cincinnati posted a team-high seven points at the half.

The Eagles will now kick off a three-game road stand featuring Stony Brook on Monday, December 11, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. followed by Delaware and Georgetown before the Christmas break. Cincinnati returns home to face Xavier on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at 7:30 p.m.
