Washington, D.C. -Strakonice's Jolanta Stasiunaite tallied 26 points to power the foreign exhibition team past American University, 75-67, this afternoon in Bender Arena.
The Eagles (1-1 Exhibition) took their first lead of the game, 54-53, off a Christina Black (Fr.-R, G, Upper Marlboro, MD/ Elizabeth Seton) jumper at the 11:17 minute mark. The two teams would exchange the lead three times before tying the game at, 65-65 with 4:28 to play. Strakonice then went on a 8-1 run to close out the game.
The Eagles were led by senior center Jina Lewis (New Castle, DE/William Penn) who registered a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead three in double figures this afternoon. Freshman Kaitlin Schuyler (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) added 14 points, including two three-pointers, while sophomore Erin Brady (Weatherly, PA/Marian Catholic) chipped in 11 points. The Eagles shot 39% for the game and out-rebounded Strakonice 40-38.
Strakonice's Stasiunaite led three in double figures. Rita Spultauskaite added 12 points, while Jurga Budryte tallied 10 points. Strakonice shot 43% for the game and hit 23-for-29 from the line.
Behind by 15 points, 15-30, at the 8:17 mark in the first half, the Eagles went on a 14-5 run capped off by a Brady jumper to inch within six points and settle for a 33-41 score at the break. The Eagles were backed by Lewis' 13 points and five rebounds, while Rita Spultauskaite tallied 12 points for Strakonice.
The Eagles will now have a little less than a week to prepare for their regular-season opener at Bucknell this Saturday, November 18, 2000, at 5:15 p.m.
