Five players scored in double digits to lead Old Dominion past American, 91-48, in a Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball game in front of 384 at AU's Bender Arena today.
The Monarchs (13-8, 10-0 CAA) broke the game open with a 20-4 run to start the second half to lead 65-32 with 13:40 remaining. An Okeisha Howard lay-up capped a 10-0 run that gave Old Dominion its largest lead of the game, 91-45, with just under a minute left to play. ODU held a distinct advantage on the boards, finishing the game with 44 rebounds compared with only 24 for the Eagles (4-18, 2-9 CAA).
Howard led Old Dominion with a game-high 22 points while Monique Coker added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds off the bench. Tiffany Thompson and Hamchetou Maiga both hit double digits with 10 points each and Myriah Spence finished with 14 points.
In the first half, the Monarchs used a 20-5 run, capped by Howard's jumper with 1:23 left in the half, to take their largest lead of the half, 43-24. Myriah Spence led ODU with 13 points at the half while Jina Lewis led AU with all 10 of her points coming before the break.
ODU next hosts UNC-Wilmington on Thur., Feb. 15 at 7:35 p.m. while AU hits the road for a game against East Carolina on Fri., Feb. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
