Richmond Rallies Past American, 72-68, in Women's Basketball

Senior forward Carolyn Constantakis earned game-highs with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Richmond (11-9, 5-3 CAA) to a 72-68 win against American (4-14, 2-5 CAA) in a Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball game in front of 256 at AU's Bender Arena tonight.

Coming off a loss at William & Mary, Richmond rebounded with a win thanks to Michele Koclanes' 10 points and game-high 11 assists. Elise Ryder added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Spiders.

The Spiders took their largest lead of the game at 14:50 left, 48-37, but the Eagles rallied to tie the game, 64-64, on a Kaitlin Schuyler (Fr., G, Baltimore, MD/Mercy) three-pointer with 3:22 remaining. Richmond then sank two quick baskets and converted four of five free-throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Danielle Johnson (Jr., G, Pittsburgh, PA/Woodland Hills) paced the Eagles with 16 points and Jina Lewis (Sr., F, New Castle, DE/William Penn) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds. American played without sophomore guard Erin Brady (Weatherly, PA/Marian Catholic), who missed a triple-double by just two rebounds in AU's last outing, but the Eagles got a career-high 15 points from Schuyler who started in her place.

AU held a four-point lead, its largest of the game, with 5:39 left in the first half, 26-22, but Richmond went on a 15-5 run to take a 37-31 lead heading into the locker room. Constantakis led all scorers at the break with 12 points

Richmond next travels to Old Dominion on Fri., Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. while American hosts George Mason at Bender on Thu., Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
