NORFOLK, VA. -- Sophomore guard Okeisha Howard (Va.Beach, Va.) scored 25 points and hauled in a career high eight rebounds to lead the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 86-41 CAA victory over American Tuesday night. Old Dominion is now 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAA. AU drops to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in the CAA.
Leading 46-25 at halftime, the Lady Monarchs outscored AU 21-5 in the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 57-30 lead with 12:22 left.
Freshman Monique Coker (Bronx, NY.) hauled in a career high 11 rebounds and scored six points for Old Dominion. Sharron Francis scored 16 points, dished out six assists and came up with four steals. Kim Giddens (Painter, Va.) scored 12 points on five-for-five shooting.
The Lady Monarchs shot .473 (26-55) from the floor and outrebounded AU, 50-25. The Eagles shot .264 (14-53) from the floor, and committed 23 turnovers (15 in the first half).
Old Dominion, winner of 104 straight CAA games hosts James Madison on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the fieldhouse. AU hosts William and Mary on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
