Tom Callan is in his second season as the director of basketball
operations for American University women's basketball team. Callan
handles the coordination for all team travel and equipment, and
assists with the planning of the Matt Corkery Hoops School.
Before to his hiring at AU in September 2008, Callan was directly
involved in women's basketball, serving as team manager for the
University of Colorado and USA Basketball.
From 2004-06, Callan assisted in all responsibilities pertaining to
Colorado's team operations, including attendance, game and practice
preparation and summer camps. Additionally, in 2005, Callan was
team manager for the U.S. women's basketball team in the World
University Games. He also spent time over the past years as the
manager for the U-19 FIBA World Championship in Bratislava,
Slovakia and the FIBA Women's World League in Yekaterinburg,
Russia. He was responsible for team equipment, practice logistics
and video scouting, and assisted with player relations.
A 2007 graduate from Colorado with degrees in both international
affairs and economics, Callan spent seven months as an investment
analyst intern at Stategies LLC.
"Tom has strong organizational skills and extensive experience
through his time spent at Colorado and with USA Basketball that
gave him the foundation to excel at running the operations of our
program," commented AU Head Coach Matt Corkery. "He grew up around
basketball and already worked with assistant coach LaTonya Watson
from their time at Colorado. He has been a vital part of our
staff."
