BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Emily Kinneston tallied her first career double-double to lead the American University women's basketball team to its 14th consecutive win of the season with the 60-44 victory over Lehigh.
The Eagles remain undefeated in the Patriot League at 13-0, 20-4 overall, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 7-6 in the league and 13-11 overall.
Kinneston continues to edge closer to the prestigious 1,000-point mark, scoring a game-high 18 while bringing down 10 rebounds to end with her first double-double as an Eagle. Junior Cecily Carl followed with 12 points and nine rebounds while senior Maria Liddane added another 10 points.
Kinneston also contributed a team-high four assists.
The Eagles shot 43.4 percent from the field (23-53) and 75.0 percent from the free throw line (12-16) while being held to their lowest perimeter shooting percentage since Navy (Jan. 5) at .154 (2-13). For the fourth time this season, the Eagles bested a PL opponent on the boards, 42-29.
The Mountain Hawks were led by Quinci Mann's 15-point effort. Camryn Burh added seven rebounds to lead Lehigh on the boards.
Lehigh shot 28.6 percent from the field (16-56), 88.9 percent from the line (8-9) and 19.0 percent from the perimeter (4-21).
The Eagles put up a controlling first quarter, holding Lehigh to only seven points in the first four minutes of play. A pair of five-point efforts from Kinneston and senior Michael Harris sent AU on a 10-0 run to close the quarter with a 16-7 advantage.
Lehigh cut that lead down to four points by halftime behind six points from Mae Williams.
A pair of early baskets from Mann and Gena Grundhoffer tied the game at 28-28 in the first minute of the third quarter. Lehigh took a brief lead after a three from Hannah Hedstrom, but AU quickly regained its momentum after an 8-0 run rebuilt a five-point cushion for the Eagles.
American controlled the fourth quarter, holding Lehigh to only six points while an 8-0 run through the middle of the stanza expanded the gap to six points. Another four points from senior Michael Harris and sophomore TaeKenya Cleveland in the final two minutes closed the game at 60-44.
AU will be back on the road against Boston University on Wednesday before returning home on Feb. 17 for a 1 p.m. tipoff against Lafayette. That game will also be the Senior Day celebration for the six members of this year's graduating class - Kate Bond, Io Chaney, Michael Harris, Asha Henley, Emily Kinneston, and Maria Liddane.
