WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team will hit the court for the first time this season on Sunday, Oct. 22, for the annual Blue-White Alumnae Scrimmage. Fans are invited to come get a first look at the 2017-18 squad during the game, which is scheduled for 12:30 in Bender Arena.

The Eagles lost only one starter from the 2016-17 team in Lauren Crisler, who closed her career as the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's basketball. The team closed its season with a 15-16 overall record and 11-7 in the PL and qualified for the league tournament semifinal round, where the Eagles fell to the eventual Champions, Bucknell.

Included among the returning four starters are seniors Maria Liddane and Emily Kinneston, who was a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree last year. A pair of juniors rounds out the returning starters with Kaitlyn Lewis and 2017 Third Team All-Patriot League selection, Cecily Carl.

AU enters the season with a lot of experience from the six-person senior class. Joining Liddane and Kinneston for one final campaign in the red, white and blue is Kate Bond, Io Chaney, Michael Harris and Asha Henley. Elina Koskimies and transfer Morgan Bartner make up the junior class, while TaeKenya Cleveland and Katie Marenyi return for their sophomore campaigns.

The Eagles also welcome a pair of freshmen with Maddie Royle and Indeya Sanders.

AU will open its season on Nov. 10 with a trip to Tulsa before returning home on Nov. 13 to open its home schedule against La Salle. For the latest on American Women's Basketball, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_WBasketball.
