Kinneston, Carl Earn All-Patriot League Nods

WASHINGTON - Two American University women's basketball players earned Patriot League end-of-the-year honors for the 2016-17 season, as released by the league office on Friday.

Junior guard Emily Kinneston earned her first league honors with a spot on both the All-Patriot League Second Team as well as the All-Defensive Team, while sophomore forward Cecily Carl earned her second consecutive league award as a member of the All-PL Third Team.

For Kinneston, this is the latest in what has been a career season, as she emerged as the Eagles' leading scorer, averaging 12.8 ppg, while also consistently ranking as one of the team's top rebounders with 4.9 rpg.  Kinneston closed the regular season as one of the top guards in the league and the only player to rank in the top five for steals (2.1 per game) while also sitting in the top ten for scoring (12.8 ppg) and assists (3.1 apg).

Carl has been another powerful force on both ends of the court for the Eagles, leading the team with 5.8 rpg while ranking second behind Kinneston with 10.3 ppg.  One of the top blockers in the league, averaging 1.2 per game, Carl landed herself in the American University record books this season with the seventh-highest career block tally in program history at 69.  This is her second consecutive Patriot League honor, after she was unanimously selected to the 2015-16 All-Rookie Team.

The league's major awards were also announced on Friday, with Bucknell senior Claire DeBoer recognized as the PL Player of the Year.  Army junior Aliyah Murray earned Defensive Player of the Year and Holy Cross freshman Lauren Manis was awarded Rookie of the Year.  Bucknell's Aaron Roussell joined DeBoer on the major awards release as Coach of the Year.

American will kick off postseason play at home on Monday, March 6, with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Boston University in the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinal Round.  For the latest on AU Women's Basketball, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_WBasketball.
