WASHINGTON - Sophomore Elina Koskimies captured her first GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week nod of the season on Wednesday, March 1, a week after putting up a career performance against Navy on Feb. 22.
Koskimies led the American University women's basketball in scoring for the first time in her career against the Midshipmen, putting up a career-high 17 points off of 5-of-6 shooting from the perimeter and 6-of-7 overall from the floor. She entered the game with a career-high 11 points from earlier in the season, and tied that number in the first half alone before crashing through it by the end of the third quarter.
She followed that performance with another near-perfect game from beyond the arc, shooting 3-of-4 to tally nine points during the Eagles' win over Loyola Maryland on Feb. 25.
Koskimies currently ranks second for the Eagles in three-point percentage (.386), and is shooting 44.0 percent overall from the floor.
The Eagles will close the regular season on the road with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Navy on Wednesday, March 1, before returning home on March 6 to host Boston University at 7 p.m. in the Patriot League Quarterfinal.
