ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior Jen Dumiak scored 22 points to lead the American University women's basketball team to a 41-29 victory over Navy on Wednesday evening at Alumni Hall.
The win moves the Eagles to 20-8 overall on the season. American also improves to 15-2 in the Patriot League, clinching the regular-season title and the top seed in the conference championship.
The Eagles started out cold, missing their first six field goals before Dumiak got AU on the board nearly six minutes into the contest. After trailing 10-4 with 12:21 on the clock, American went on an 11-2 run to pull ahead before going into the locker room with a 19-15 advantage.
The Mids got within a point early in the second half, but a 10-0 run by the Eagles pushed the margin to double digits. Navy never got closer than five points down the stretch, as American pulled away for the win.
While both teams shot poorly, Navy was held to just 20 percent from the field, including just 4-of-28 from beyond the arc. In addition, the 29 points scored by the Midshipmen were the fewest ever allowed by an American team.
Meanwhile, Dumiak connected on 7-of-10 field goal attempts and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe to boost the Eagles' shooting percentages.
American closes out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 28, as it hosts Bucknell in a 7 p.m. contest.
