The American University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 67-53 victory at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles secured the No. 3 seed in the 2014 Patriot League Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Lafayette in Bender Arena on Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m.

Sarah Kiely scored a career-high 18 points, going a career-best 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, to lead four double-digit scorers for American. Alexis Dobbs notched 17 points and a team-best seven rebounds while Jen Dumiak posted 13 points, matching her career mark with nine assists. Michelle Holmes chipped in 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.

"I think this was a good test for us going into the conference tournament especially against a team that, I think they felt they had something to prove today," said Head Coach Megan Gebbia. "For the most part we executed our offense well and we had a lot of good looks in our motion. For Sarah to come off the bench and to have her career-high in points and 3-point field goals made in this game was outstanding. It's the lift that we need to pull ahead and just the way she's been playing and the way the seniors have been playing has been great."

Audrey Dotson put Bucknell (16-12, 11-7) up 5-2 early in the game and the Bison held a 10-9 edge at 13:18. Dobbs and Dumiak hit consecutive treys to put the Eagles back on top and Dobbs added her second 3-pointer for the 22-15 American lead with 6:29 remaining in the first half. Bucknell answered with a 13-4 run out of a timeout to go up 27-26 with 2:31 to play. Kiely drained back-to-back triples from the top of the key to spark a 10-0 Eagles' run and send American into the break with a 36-27 lead.

The Eagles shot 42.4 percent from the field in the first half and went 6-of-16 from beyond the arc. The Bison shot 37.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

American (21-8, 14-4) took its largest lead, 45-29, on six straight points by Holmes and a Kiely trey at 14:59. Bucknell fought back, using a 12-2 run to come back within six, 47-41, with 10:59 remaining. Kiely hit her fourth triple and Dumiak hit a pair of free throws for the 54-43 Eagles' advantage but neither team was able to score over the next three minutes.

Tyler Craig ended the drought for Bucknell to cut the lead to single digits but Geleisa George hit a jumper to restore American's 11-point advantage, 56-45, with 4:18 to play. The Eagles went up 64-48 on a pair of free throws by George and jumper by Kiely. Dobbs scored the final four points of the game for American, hitting a pair of free throws with 1.1 seconds on the clock for the 67-53 final score.

Dotson scored a game-high 23 points and Shelby Romine added 15 points to lead Bucknell. Craig and Romine finished with a team-best six boards apiece as the Bison held a 35-28 advantage in rebounds for the game.

The Eagles shot 46.3 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc in the win. Bucknell went 38.8 percent from the field and 5-for-18 from 3-point range.
