Liz Leer: 168 Hours Booked Solid


During the stretch run of the American University women's basketball season in which the Eagles captured their third Patriot League regular season championship in the last four seasons, Mike Unger of American Magazine followed around All-Patriot League First Team performer Liz Leer for a full week to experience what it is like to be a student-athlete.

Leer, who will graduate from American in May, completed her career at AU as the program's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,477 points, third in rebounding with 741, and first in career blocked shots with 212. Academically, Leer was selected to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League Team and was named a Capital One Academic All-District Second Team honoree.

"Eight-fifteen on Saturday morning is not a time most college kids embrace. But it was at precisely 8:15 on Saturday, February 5, that Liz Leer’s alarm clock sounded. She wiped the sleep from her eyes, resisted the urge to hit the snooze button, and rolled out of bed.

Over the course of the next week, virtually all of the American University women’s basketball star’s 168 waking hours were booked..."
