Senior Liz Leer has been selected to the All-Patriot League First Team for the second straight season while junior Lisa Strack garnered Second Team recognition, conference officials announced Tuesday. Additionally, freshman Alexis Dobbs earned a spot on the conference’s All-Rookie Team.
Leer, a Glenside, Pa., native, earns her second consecutive First Team recognition after leading the Eagles in both scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) this season, both of which rank fifth in the conference. Leer is tops in the Patriot League in field goal proficiency (51.8 percent) and three-point accuracy (45.3 percent). Leer recorded five double-doubles on the season and scored in double figures in 22 games this season. The senior has made the most career appearances in AU history (123), and is ranked fourth in scoring (1,347 points), third in rebounding (721), and first in blocked shots (205). She becomes only the second AU women’s basketball student-athlete to ever be selected to the Patriot League’s First Team in multiple seasons.
Strack earns Second Team recognition for the first time in her career after averaging 11.7 ppg, ninth-most in the PL, along with 4.8 rpg. She also registered 3.4 apg and 1.9 spg, both of which ranked in the top-five in the conference. Her 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio is third-highest in the league and she is also fourth-best in free throw shooting at 77.7 percent. The Langhorne, Pa., native started all 28 games this season, registering 19 double-digit scoring performances and earning Patriot League Player of the Week honors on December 27 this season.
Dobbs picks up All-Rookie Team recognition after finishing third on the team in scoring with 6.9 ppg. She appeared in all 28 games this season, which included 24 starts, and has played over 29 minutes per game. She is seventh in the conference with 2.6 apg and ninth in three-point accuracy at 35.9 percent. The Berea, Ohio, native was also selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on December 19. Dobbs is the sixth AU women’s basketball student-athlete to ever be selected on the All-Rookie Team, joining Leer (2008), Ebony Edwards (2009), and Strack (2009) as former recipients.
Leer, Strack and Dobbs led the Eagles to a share of the Patriot League Championship with a 10-4 conference record, American’s third conference regular season title in the last four years. Overall, AU registered a 20-8 record in the regular season, marking the fifth time in program history that the Eagles have reached the 20-win plateau.
The Eagles begin the Patriot League Tournament when they host Holy Cross on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets for this quarterfinal matchup can be purchased by clicking here.
